While other banks are moving their headquarters to the Stockholm suburbs, Marginalen has done the exact opposite and relocated to the middle of town – in an architectural gem from 1932, designed by Sigurd Lewerentz. The challenge was to combine Marginalen’s richly colourful visual identity with Lewerentz’s stylistically pure and classic original elements. Different, sustainable, meeting-friendly, cosy and diverse were some of words leading the concept. Much of the interior has been renovated with respect for the building’s original materiality. In contrast with the otherwise sober spatial setting, the office floor and communal areas have been given new, distinct features in the form of a conglomeration of colours. The building has been given new life based on the bank’s clear brand vision, where Marginalen’s distinctive red colour is used cautiously in various places as a signal.
